The Stables Courtyard

A stone arch to the left of the rear entrance to the park overlooking Via Coronini leads to a service area, bordered by buildings that, until the early 20th century, housed the stables for stabling carriages, work wagons and horses, some houses for the estate's farmers and workers, a greenhouse and the old guesthouse, named “Villa Kugy” as it was the birthplace of the mountaineer Julius Kugy (1858-1944), the “explorer and poet of the Julian Alps”.

In the post-World War II period, a flower garden with vine pergolas, vegetable garden, herbs and flowers was established in this area, according to a widespread custom in the courtyards of Gorizia's houses. After undergoing a renovation, the Stables building is currently home to the Foundation's conference room and exhibition hall.
