The staircase next to the main entrance to the park, closed off by a beautiful wrought-iron gate, had been flanked since the end of the 19th century by terracotta vases on either side, initially intended to house aloe specimens and later yucca plants.
Count Alfredo's plants were renowned in Gorizia. As reports from the time recall, “When old Count Coronini of Grafenberg [...] removes the aloes from the steps leading up to the pergola and withdraws the large yucca from the large curved and pot-bellied vases, it means that winter is just around the corner. And when he brings them back out into the open it means spring is coming”.
