The courtly portrait from Quisca Castle depicts the historian from Gorizia, vice-president of the united Counties of Gorizia and Gradisca, in the robes of the Order of St. Stephen of Hungary founded by Maria Theresa in 1764 and conferred on him in 1769.
In his hand he holds a gold necklace bearing the image of the empress, given to him in gratitude for his important historical work, the Tentamen genealogico chronologicum promovendae seriei comitum et rerum Goritiae.
On the table are the chamberlain's key and a gold snuff box decorated with stones and enamel received in 1773, while his right hand is adorned with a diamond ring, another gift from the sovereign, who said in her private correspondence that she was “very pleased with Coronini”.
Carl Lichtenreiter (1742-1817), pittore, maestro di disegno e ritrattista, fu l’ultimo rappresentante di una famiglia di artisti attivi nel goriziano nel corso del XVIII secolo. Figlio del più noto pittore Johann Michael, Carl compì gli studi a Venezia e Vienna, svolgendo poi per alcuni anni la sua attività fuori da Gorizia. Dal 1788 è nuovamente documentato in città, ma solo pochi dei molti lavori di cui resta notizia, soprattutto quelli realizzati per il santuario del Monte Santo, si sono conservati.
