Palace Plateau

The large circular lawn, shaded by pine trees, broadly occupies the area where, until the 1880s, the original square-plan garden lay, surrounded by walls of varying heights. A fragment of it is still preserved with the gate that at the time still opened onto the surrounding countryside.

On the side facing Gorizia Castle, the lawn was bordered by a stone balustrade surmounted by triangular pinnacles, which faced the city and the lower part of the park. This structure was severely damaged during the Great War, but a few early 20th-century photographs remain.

In the second half of the century, Guglielmo Coronini replaced it with a small stone wall with battlements, and large terracotta vases were placed on top, inspired by a similar construction in the garden of Cronberg Castle.

Also originating from the Cronberg residence is the 2nd century A.D. Triple Hecate, placed at one end of the grounds, as well as the statue of a child on a dolphin, placed in the centre of the small circular fountain, built next to it.
