The tondo, with its evident neoclassical setting, in its reference to ancient medallic art, appears very similar to those in alabaster that Messerschmidt executed on commission in Bratislava, but it is the only one known to have been cast in a metal alloy similar to that of the heads.
The female character depicted here has not been identified, but it is likely that she too, like the two “character heads”, is associated with the Palffy Daun family. Although not mentioned in the documents, it may have been inherited by Count Guglielmo in 1947, after the death of his cousin Eleanor Palffy Daun.
